There are now more children’s books focused on proud Multiracial youth stories. Social media is also helping Multiracial youths across the globe to connect with and support one another. Society is changing rapidly, and there are more Multiracial-identifying people today than ever before.
At the same time, 30% of adults with at least a bachelor’s degree say that dating sites and apps have a mostly positive effect on dating relationships, compared with 18% of those with a high school education or less. These educational differences are present regardless of online dating use. When asked to share their views on the type of effect dating sites and apps have had on dating and relationships, 50% of Americans believe their effect has been neither positive nor negative. Meanwhile, 26% say online dating has had a mostly negative effect on dating and relationships, while 22% describe its effect as mostly positive. Gender patterns in intermarriages vary widely, the study found. About 24% of African-American males married outside their race in 2010, compared to 9% of African-American females. Lewis found that once people had been approached by somebody from a different race, or had gotten a response from one, they were more likely to initiate contact or respond to someone from that race in future interactions. In fact, these people logged 115% more interracial exchanges in the two-and-a-half-month study period between them than OKCupid members of a similar background and region who had not been contacted by a person from another race. And the groups who did the most in-race dating were the groups who showed most marked change. Interestingly, though, getting a message from a black guy didn’t mean that women would look at all other races. The majority of American online daters — 54% — say relationships from dating platforms are as successful as in-person meetings. Out of the remaining 46%, 5% say that such relationships are more successful than relationships that started in person, leaving only 41% who think online relationships are less likely to last.
